Swimming Pool Safety Tips
AmazingBaby.com would like to make sure you have a safe environment for your children when spending time in swimming pools. The AmazingBaby Water Carrier is not a pool safety device, however, it does enable you to have your hands free to monitor an older child in the pool. Here are some pool safety tips put out by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Pool safety tips
- Surround your pool with a pool fence that is at least five feet tall so your child can't climb or fit through the bars.
- The gate on the fence should be self-closing and latch automatically.
- Install a gate alarm so you know when the gate is opened. Make sure its high enough so only adults can turn it off.
- Add a water alarm that sounds whenever water is displaced.
- Install another alarm on the door that leads to your pool area.
- Don't leave pool toys in the water-they can be tempting to a child, and if they do fall in the pool, the toys would block your visibility.
- Keep rescue equipment (such as a shepherd's hook or life preserver) and a telephone by the pool.
- After the children are done swimming, secure the pool so they can't get back into it. According to the CPSC, a motorized safety cover should be used when the pool is not in use.
- Most importantly, everyone in your family should know CPR. Anyone watching young children around a pool should learn CPR and be able to rescue a child if needed. Stay within an arm's length of your child.
Remember, teaching your child how to swim DOES NOT mean your child is safe in water. However, following these swimming pool safety tips can increase the safeness of the swimming pool.
